Welcome Ava Elizabeth Ashby!!

After 9 long months of pregnancy our little baby girl was born! She came at 6:39 pm Saturday, March 28th and weighs 7 lbs 5 oz and is 20 inches long. I might be a little biased but we think she is the most beautiful baby in the world. She was a day away from her due date, March 29th. We thought she would be here earlier so these last few weeks have been pretty long in anticipation - to say the least.

On Friday night Dave and I were driving home from my parents home and I was telling him that I was pretty sure she was never coming (or not coming for a long time) because I hadn't had any real contractions and at my last doctor's appt. I wasn't dilated at all. So I was feeling pretty frustrated thinking that I was going to go past my due date which being a pretty impatient person was very frustrating to me (and for those of you who have been pregnant there comes a point when you are just done being pregnant and I reached that about 3 weeks ago)! So Dave and I laid down for bed at about 1 am and at about 5:30am I woke up to go to the bathroom and realized I was in a LOT of pain! I laid back down and realized that this pain was coming every few minutes and was getting worse. After about an hour realizing that this pain was not going away I decided it must be labor and it was time to wake Dave up. I tapped on his chest and told him that I thought I was in labor. I think he was in unbelief after our conversation just a few hours before, but jumped up and started timing the contractions. I could tell he was so excited. He timed them coming every 3-5 minutes and we decided it was time to go to the hospital and check it out. We grabbed the bags we packed and got to the hospital about 7:30am. I was in so much pain, but Dave was so sweet and basically carried me there. We were taken into a triage room to be checked and sure enough I was dilated to 3 cm. They called my doctor who told them to admit me and that I was going to have the baby that day. I was so glad because I was worried they were going to tell me it was a false alarm. So we were admitted into our labor/delivery/recovery room (all one room). I don't know what it is but hospital time just flies by and the next thing I knew it was time to push and an hour later our little girl was here!! She is just perfect and we love her so much! We are so excited she is finally here.

HELP!

Ok so I'm a little slow with this whole blogging thing and I tried to change the background to a fun Christmas one as you can see... but I don't know how to get rid of the previous background. Does anyone know how to do that?

It's a......

Well we went to have our big ultrasound yesterday to find out the gender of our little baby. To give you a little background... We have both kind of wanted to have a little girl; me secretly and Dave not so secretly. A few months ago Dave found a garage sale selling a bunch of baby girl clothes so he bought a bunch and brought them home. It was pretty funny but I thought if we had a boy he's going to be wearing a lot of pink :). We have been trying to get into the whole garage sale thing too because we realized how much having a little baby is going to cost and it is not cheap. We went to one a few weeks ago that was pretty disappointing but we did manage to purchase a halloween costume for our little one for 2010 because it won't fit it till then. But anyways... I was pretty convinced that we were going to have a little boy for several reasons: 1) Dave and I both wanted a girl 2) We purchased girl clothes thus cursing our chances 3) I went to lunch with my mom 2 days ago to a Chinese restaurant and right before I opened my fortune my mom said, "Wouldn't it be funny if you opened it and it said 'It's a boy.'" As I opened the fortune sure enough it said "BOY." I don't know how it happened but it was pretty hilarious especially since the odds of that happening are pretty slim and because my mom said that right as I was opening the fortune. 4) The chinese calender predicted I would have a boy. So with all those reasons I was pretty certain our little boy was coming.... Well, in case you were worried, I no longer believe in Chinese fortunes :)! We are having a little girl!!! We are very excited and can't wait until she comes... but hopefully not too soon.
